Monthly Wrap Up | March 2019

March was…different. I had a rather poor start to the month with a string of rather disappointing reads, unfortunately – many did not live up to the hype, and still others were merely passable reads. But luckily the trend did not continue as with a sudden influx of amazing ARCs (some of which I had not expected to get approved for at all), March turned out to be a pretty great month after all! I continued listening to audiobooks this month as well, still sticking to re-reads (I swear, I’m still swooning over Geekerella!), and am really starting to enjoy the audiobook experience! It doesn’t hurt that I nearly double the number of books I get through with them either. I’m also at the halfway mark of my reading challenge goal, and at this rate, I might have to think about increasing the number by May if not earlier!

Reading challenge updates:
1. Beat the Backlist: This month, I read 3 books from my backlist, and finally started catching up on the Three Dark Crowns series!
2. Year of Epic Reads:

  • Challenge of the Month: A BOOK OF NEW BEGINNINGS!
We want to leave the interpretation open to you and let you take it as literally as you want. Whether it’s the story of a new student moving to town, an unexplored frontier, or just the first book in a series, embrace the freedom of a fresh start and welcome Spring with a good book!
Chosen Book: American Princess: A Novel of First Daughter Alice Roosevelt – Stephanie Thornton
This was a last minute addition to my March TBR, since I was quite hesitant to delve into a period of history I’d never explored in my historical fiction forays before. Best decision ever! Stephanie Thornton is one of my go-to authors to discover new historical figures and Alice Roosevelt is now one of my favourites! It’s early yet, but I’m already ranking this book on my Best of Year list.

  • Quarterly Challenge: OUTSIDE THE BOX!
Between January and March, we want to challenge you to read a book based on instinct alone. Don’t overthink it, don’t waste hours debating or doing research—just pick a book up and go. Finish that series you’ve been putting off. Go boldly where no reader has gone before. Even judge a book by its cover if you’re feeling up to it! Just dive in and get reading.
Chosen book: The Shadow Game Series – Amanda Foody

I finally got started on this series from my backlist, and I’m all caught up, ready for the last book (which is still a year away 😭). I added this series to my TBR purely on a whim, and I’m glad I did, because it turned out to be a great read!
Check out my reviews for book 1, Ace of Shades and book 2, King of Fools!

Stats for the Month

Number of Books: 18
Number of Pages: 7,060

Did you read any of these books or do you plan to? I’d love to hear your thoughts on them!
