2020 Wrap Up – A Year in Books + What’s Coming in 2021

2020 has been the longest year, but it’s over at last. On the blogging front however, it has been an amazing year and I’ve hit so many milestones! I wrote my 300th post in August, hit 500 followers both here on WordPress and on Twitter in September and Worlds Unlike Our Own officially turned 2 years old in October. Let’s take a look at 2020 on my blog and what’s new this year!

Best of 2020

As always, I started out with an initial reading goal of 100 books, which I raised by 50 each time I came close to completing it. My final total stands at 212 books for 2021, a sizeable number of which were actually backlist titles.

Out of the 200+ books I read this year, 8 made it onto my best of shelf: many expected, others not at all. Check out the full post here and see below for individual reviews.

New in 2021

My posting schedule is staying much the same this year, but I am picking up a new weekly meme: Let’s Talk Bookish that will be posted on Fridays. I will also be doing a Most Anticipated Reads for each month to complement the seasonal lists I already do – these will be posted within the first 3-4 of the month.

The major change though, is that I am not doing any reading challenges this year, and am planning to concentrate on reducing my backlist, particularly on the various series I’ve left unfinished in the past couple of years. Then there are of course, new books and ARCs which will continue to be a main focus (it’s four days into the year, and if you can believe it, I already have a backlog) – there are some titles I’m really excited for this year! The only other thing currently planned is a full series reread of Harry Potter because I saw the first movie over Christmas again and I’m feeling rather nostalgic now. My goal for the Goodreads challenge is once again starting at 100 books, a purposefully easy number for my reading speed so I can concentrate on my other goals more.

I want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of you for your views, likes, comments and support over this year. Wishing everyone a safe and Happy New Year 2021!

What were your favourite books of 2020? Do you have any reading goals for this year? I’d love to hear from you in the comments!
