Hello readers! Today, I’m doing the Ultimate Book Tag that I saw over on The Irresponsible Reader a while ago. I know Monday isn’t a regular posting day for me, but I’ve been having a hard time with a few books over the past couple of weeks and had to skip quite a few review days. So to make up for those missed days, I will be posting every day this week (or atleast that’s the plan).
Do You Get Sick While Reading In The Car?
Yes, I get awfully sick if I try to read in the car regardless of the medium – even audiobooks don’t work!
Which Author’s Writing Style Is Completely Unique To You And Why?
I feel like each author’s style is unique so I don’t really know how to answer this? I’m a huge fan of Cassandra Clare’s storytelling style and the way she draws you into the world and characters.
Harry Potter or Twilight? Give 3 Reasons Why.
Harry Potter, obviously!
- I grew up with the Harry Potter books, so I have a very sentimental attachment to them. I’d reread them any day, whereas I can’t see myself picking up the Twilight books ever again.
- The plot and characters are so much better in Harry Potter, and I like the story. Twilight was just meh and it felt like each book was just getting worse.
- Harry Potter was the first proper fantasy novel I remember reading, and despite everything that’s going on with the author these days, the magic of the books is still unmatched.
Do You Carry A Book Bag? If So, What’s In It (Besides Books)?
I haven’t carried a book bag since college and I usually prefer something more compact nowadays. My daily shoulder bag usually contains my purse, keys, phone, hand sanitizer, mints or chocolate, lip balm and my Kindle.
Do You Smell Your Books?
Books With or Without Illustrations?
I prefer my books without illustrations. For some reason, I find them very distracting, but also, I like to leave the visualization up to my imagination.
What Book Did You Love While Reading, But Discovered Later It Wasn’t Quality Writing?
While we’re on the topic, Twilight. I wouldn’t say I loved the first book, but the story interested me to an extent. It was only when I started struggling to finish New Moon that I figured out it wasn’t all that great.
Do You Have Any Funny Stories Involving Books From Your Childhood?
None that I know of.
What Is The Thinnest Book On Your Shelf?
The Homeric Hymns by Homer (translated Thelma Sargent). It was actually one of the textbooks for my classical mythology course and is just under 100 pages.
What Is the Thickest Book On Your Shelf?
The 40th Anniversary Edition of The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien at over 1,200 pages.
Do You Write As Well As Read? Do You See Yourself Being An Author In the Future?
I do write when in the mood, but nothing serious. As for becoming an author, well, if the inspiration strikes, it would be really cool!
When Did You Get Into Reading?
Very, very early. My mom got me into it really young, so I don’t actually remember a time when I wasn’t reading.
What Is Your Favorite Classic Book?
Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey. I’m also really fond of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist.
What Was Your Best Subject In School?
Math came to me the easiest and I always had fun in that class. History and English were pretty good too.
What Is Your If You Were Given A Book As A Present That You Read Before And Hated, What Would You Do?
Just thank the person – it’s a nice gesture regardless of if I’ve read it or not.
What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?
I don’t know how well known this is, but the Matched series by Allie Condie always kind of reminded me of The Hunger Games.
What Is a bad habit you always do (Besides Rambling) while writing?
I get distracted really easily, especially if I need to look up something, I usually end up with ten open tabs that have nothing to do with the subject.
What Is Your Favorite Word?
It keeps changing, but currently, epoch.
Are You A Nerd, Dork, or Dweeb?
Is there actually a difference between the three? Nerd, I guess?
Vampires or Fairies? Why?
Fae, simply because Twilight utterly ruined vampires for me.
Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?
I’m going to say shapeshifters, because after Furyborn, Daughter of Smoke and Bone and countless other books with less than benevolent angels, they kind of freak me out.
Spirits or Werewolves? Why?
Werewolves. See above – supernatural themes don’t work for me.
Zombies or Vampires? Why?
Vampires. Both are undead, but at least the vampires look good.
Love Triangles or Forbidden Love?
Forbidden love. Love triangles are so overdone that there’s rarely anything new to them.
Full-on Romance Books Or Action-Packed With A Few Love Scenes?
I prefer action-packed with a romance subplot.
As usual, I won’t be tagging anyone, but feel free to do this tag if it interests you – I’d love to hear your answers for these questions!
