Review:

Following the shocking revelations at the end of Kingdom of the Wicked, Emilia has sold her soul – literally – to become Queen of the Wicked, going as far as accepting to marry Prince Pride in order to find the demon who killed her sister Vittoria and avenge her. But the world of the seven Princes and their courts is a dangerous one, and Emilia will have to learn to adapt quickly, especially when she is not sure who she can trust.

For some reason, I thought this series was a duology, but can I just say how glad I am that there is one more book to look forward to? I read this without a break and didn’t even realize the book was over until I turned the last page. I would have liked to see a little more world building considering the complete change of setting but what we did get was interesting, even if it was all mostly in Wrath’s territory. Kingdom of the Cursed was definitely more of a character based book than plot based, and this type of book is usually harder for me to get through, but I didn’t have that trouble with this book at all, and despite the slower pace, it stayed interesting throughout.

Emilia was an amazing character and I absolutely loved her arc in this book. It was kind of annoying though how she remembered her real goal to find out who killed Vittoria only every now and then when the plot needed it. Wrath and Emilia were so perfect and I don’t say this often, but the romance plotline was very well done. The interactions between Emilia and the various Princes of Hell were the most interesting parts of the book, and I hope we get to see more of it in the next book as I’m really curious to know more as they are all so intriguing.

As entertaining a read as it was, there was still a little bit of second book syndrome with this one and much of it read like filler and the first 30% or so of the book especially seemed to crawl without much plot advancement at all. It was obvious, however, that it was laying the groundwork for the next book, so I have my fingers crossed for an exciting finale.

This book had its share of big reveals, with a few showing up earlier in the story than I thought they might. The ending was quite dramatic, and after how the first book concluded, I was half expecting the cliffhanger, but it was no less shocking for the fact. Overall, I really liked this sequel and I can’t wait to see what happens next. I’m tempted to rate this book higher than 4 stars but I’m going to reserve judgement until I have book 3 in hand. I would continue to highly recommend this series for any fantasy fans!
