Let’s Talk Bookish: Joys and Pet Peeves of the Book Blogging Community

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme created by Rukky @ Eternity Books and hosted by Aria @ Book Nook Bits where we discuss certain topics, share our opinions, and spread the love by visiting each others’ posts. Today’s topic is Joys and Pet Peeves of the Book Blogging Community.

What are some things you love about the blogging community? What are some things you dislike?

I love how welcoming and friendly the blogging community is, and it’s so nice how bloggers are so supportive and kind, whether it’s leaving comments on each others posts or retweeting them. The blogging community is also such a great place to find new books to read, and of course discuss them too. I don’t really have anything that dislike about the community, though since I’ve only been blogging for three years, it could be that I’ve yet to come across it.

When do you feel the most/least connected to the community?

I feel most connected to the blogging community when I receive or reply to comments on my posts as I love interacting with my readers and hearing their thoughts. I actually started doing the Let’s Talk Bookish meme for this reason as it would allow me to talk about various bookish topics that would otherwise probably not appear on my blog, and also get to see other bloggers’ (and readers’) viewpoints on these subjects.

I guess I feel least connected to the community when a particular trend that I have no interest in is catching on. I’ve never been one to pick up books based on current trends so it’s not uncommon that there might be a hugely popular book that I have no intention of reading, and it can be a little hard to connect what that’s all anyone is talking about.

What are some things you’d like to see changed when it comes to blogging? Have there been any major changes in the community since you started to blog that you love?

I can’t really think of much I’d like to change when it comes to blogging. The major change I’ve seen in the blogging community since I started blogging is how fast it has grown and keeps growing, and across so many platforms. Having only a traditional blog no longer suffices and it’s almost essential to be on some form of social media, if not all, alongside it. I disliked this initially as I’ve never been one to regularly use Twitter, Instagram etc. but eventually I came to enjoy that aspect of blogging too, especially as these platforms have helped me find some amazing blogs that I now follow regularly.

The book blogging community is very welcoming! We also feel most connected when we get to interact with others in the comments.
