Let’s Talk Bookish: Making friends through blogging

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme created by Rukky @ Eternity Books and hosted by Aria @ Book Nook Bits where we discuss certain topics, share our opinions, and spread the love by visiting each others’ posts. Today’s topic is: Making friends through blogging.

So…this topic is actually last Friday’s so this post is a week late 😅 It’s been such a busy couple of days since I’m travelling next week (which I’m so excited about – it’s my first real holiday in two years!), but I finally found the time to sit down and catch up with some blogging work. Today’s LTB post should be up later today or tomorrow, along with hopefully, my Friday book review!

Is blogging a good platform for making friends? Is it only new bloggers that are going to make friends with one another? Does blogging allow for connecting with people of different ages and different backgrounds?

I think blogging is a great platform for making friends! It’s a way to find people who share similar interests, though it’s not the most interactive of platforms outside of blog hopping and leaving comments. Being a new blogger definitely provides more opportunities to make friends, but I feel it all comes down to how much you interact with other bloggers both through their blogs and on social media. I didn’t create a Twitter account until three or four months after I started blogging, and there was a definite difference once I made the effort to post and interact there.

I think blogging is possibly the best platform to connect with a wide spectrum of people regardless of age, background or location. The bookish community revolves entirely about a shared interest in books and it’s not something where any of these would be a barrier. I’m still amazed when I check my stats and see the many places my readers are from and it’s so nice to know that someone on the other side of the world is reading my blog!

How easy or hard has it been for you to make friends through blogging?

The bookish community is the biggest reason that I enjoy blogging and have the motivation to keep writing. I’m naturally something of an introvert, but books are the one topic that really gets me to open up, so I find it easier to interact with bloggers who share the same enthusiasm. In the three years I’ve been blogging, I’ve found several blogs I read on a regular basis and greatly enjoy, and I love to blog hop and add new ones to that list!

I don’t think I ‘participate’ enough to have wholly made friends, but it is nice when you find yourself on a reciprocal review-appreciation team 🙂

I’m not the most active on social media either, but I agree with you, it’s so nice to find bloggers that enjoy and review similar books!
