July is nearly here once again, which means it’s time for the annual Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag! It has been an interesting year so far on the bookish front and there are still so many highly anticipated titles to come this year. Let’s take a look!

What is the best book that you’ve read so far in 2022?

Usually this would be such a difficult question, but this year, though I have multiple titles on my best of year shelf, I don’t have to think twice about it. Wrath Goddess Sing by Maya Deane is an imaginative take on Achilles’ story that took me completely by surprise and I am currently recommending it to just about everyone I speak to.

What has been your favourite sequel of the first half of the year?

Blade Breaker by Victoria Aveyard is undoubtedly my favorite sequel so far this year. This is definitely one book this summer not to miss!

Is there a new release that you haven’t read yet but you’re really excited to?

I’ve been on track with my most anticipated releases so far this year, but one I haven’t gotten to yet is Empress Crowned In Red by Ciannon Smart.

What is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

Now this is a difficult one. I can’t wait for The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, The Golden Enclaves by Naomi Novik and All of Our Demise by Amanda Foody.

What is your biggest disappointment so far?

A Forgery of Roses by Jessica S Olsen has been the biggest disappointment this year, especially since the author’s previous book was so good.

What is your biggest surprise so far?

I would have to say Eyes of the Void by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Book one unexpectedly made its way onto my TBR last year and I completely enjoyed it, but this sequel managed to surpass it.

Who is your fictional crush from this year?

No new ones this year

Who is your new favourite character?

I’m choosing Xingying from Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan for this one. She was an amazing protagonist and her journey was a delightful one to follow.

A book that made you happy?

I’ve had mostly serious reads on my TBR this year, but Sense and Second Degree Murder by Tirzah Price was a very entertaining read.

Your favourite book to movie/tv show that you’ve seen so far?

That definitely has to be Bridgerton Season 2!

What is the most beautiful book that you have bought?

I finally bought the Canterbury Classics leatherbound edition of The Complete Novels of Jane Austen and it’s so pretty!

What is your favourite post that you have written so far this year?

My reviews of House of Sky and Breath, The Last Grand Duchess and Wrath Goddess Sing, along with my bookish list post on Historical Retellings are my favorites so far.

What are 6 books that you want to read by the end of the year?

(In no particular order)

  1. The Golden Enclaves – Naomi Novik
  2. The Final Gambit – Jennifer Lynn Barnes
  3. All of Our Demise – Amanda Foody
  4. Blood of Troy – Claire M. Andrews
  5. The Ballad of Never-After – Stephanie Garber

Eyes of the Void sounds really interesting; especially as you enjoyed it so much. I will have to put some effort into my reading as I have let it slide for a while now. I must get back into this and your post has helped with that!

This is a really good tag and I liked your answers. I might give it a go myself though I’m going to need quite a big space just for my new fictional crushes…
