Let’s Talk Bookish: How are you doing on your reading goals so far this year?

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme created by Rukky @ Eternity Books and hosted by Aria @ Book Nook Bits where we discuss certain topics, share our opinions, and spread the love by visiting each others’ posts. Today’s topic is: How are you doing on your reading goals so far this year?

Did you set any reading goals for yourself at the beginning of the year? If so, how are you doing with them? Any you’ve already met? Are there any goals you want to add?

The first goal I set for myself each year is a minimum number of books I want to read, and this number is also the target for my Goodreads Reading Challenge. Typically this number is much lower than what I actually read and that I make it that way so that I never get stressed about how many books I have left to read and I increase the number by small increments as I reach each goal.

This year my base target is 150 books. As of when I’m writing this post, I’m at 70 books which is nearly halfway through. It’s been a busy year so far and I’m a little behind in terms of the number of books I’d hoped to read by this point, but not so far behind that the goal is unreachable, especially since the from next month on, it’s looking relatively quiet. In terms of the quality of books I’ve been reading however, I’m very happy with it this year and I’ve been sticking to the TBR I created for the most part and not adding every new title that catches my eye, which was another one of my reading goals.

In terms of reading more backlist titles however, I haven’t been doing so well on that front this year. I did manage a few earlier in the year, but with the spring and summer rush of new titles and ARCs on top of everything, I haven’t had a chance to pick up a single title from my backlist in a couple of months.

My final reading goal was in relation to ARCs. I usually read ARCs about a month before release date so that it’s just in time to write and post a review two weeks in advance. But since some months have more releases than others, it was beginning to pile up too much and I had planned to try and read them further in advance whenever I could fit them into my reading schedule. This hasn’t been working too well though since my TBR for the year outside of ARCs is also pretty long. However, I have definitely started being more circumspect about requesting ARCs on NetGalley and limiting it to the titles on my TBR and a very select handful outside it which has helped me prevent my list of unread ARCs from growing too long this year.

I’m not planning to add any more goals for this year at this point, but maybe once the last big releases for the year in September/October are done, I might return to rereading some of my favorite classics as it has been a while since I picked up any of them.

Did you set any blogging goals? If so, how are you doing with those?

My major blogging goal was to stay on schedule and for the most part, I’ve been sticking to it outside of a few hiccups during the times I’ve been away on vacation this year. I do want to be a little better about taking breaks from blogging when needed and not stressing out when I do miss posts for whatever reasons, whether it’s because I’m not well or even if I’m just not in a blogging or reading mood.

We’re doing well with our reading goals and it’s been a good year for books so far.
